After a lovely Christmas I decided that it was time to take some of my unwanted books to a new home in return for some new ones, so I went to my second home, Barter Books. Barter Books is one of the largest second hand book shops in Britain, housed in an old train station which has kept some of it’s best features, and is also where they found the ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ poster, which you can still see beside the till.
Spot the train? It runs around the top of the shelves!
All of the shelves have quotes on the top, English on one side, French on the other.
This really is a haven for classical book lovers!
Sitting beside the real fire is a popular spot.
And if you’re still in the mood for second hand when you leave, next door is a little antiques shop, which the above two photos are from.
We had planned to visit Alnwick castle when we went, but it’s not open in the Winter months…we should have checked that really.
